Fundraising

If you’re performing at this year’s NSPCC Lindy at the Light then we need your help.
Although the public donate on the day, the performers in this event (you) are actually our biggest fundraisers. Thanks to facebook it takes you just a few clicks but makes a huge difference to how much you raise and how many people come and cheer you on the day.

Here’s how:
1. Post this (or similar) blurb and link in your facebook status now.
“I’m learning a dance performance for the public on 17th Dec at The Light in Leeds for the NSPCC.
Do pop along and see the performances or (more importantly) donate online here http://www.justgiving.com/lindyatthelight11
This event has raised more than £24K in the last 6 years with your help, so please dig deep and give as much or as little as you can.”

2. Sign up as “Attending” the event here
http://www.facebook.com/events/246377518762202/
and invite your friends on Facebook too.

3. Take a sponsor form to work/pub. We can make £50-100 extra EACH just by taking this to work or to the pub with us and asking friends to donate. You can print off a sponsorship form here:

4. Ask your employer to match your fundraising up to a certain limit (e.g. £100 or £500). Many companies have a charitable donations fund allocated just for this kind of thing. Sometimes all you need to do is ask. We’ve had around £1000-£2500 extra each year of this event from performers employers who have matched fundraising for their employees.

5. In the week before the event try and re-post at least twice more to remind all your family & friends that you’re dancing and need their support. Collectively we should be able to make sure folks Facebook feeds are jumping with news on the event in the days leading up to it so everyone knows when and where it is and how they can support.

6. If you’re a choreographer for the event then please make sure you pass these fundraising tips onto your performers. Every performer at Lindy at the Light is also a fundraiser. Some may not know the best way to go about raising funds or who they can ask sponsorship from so as well as training them in your choreography don’t forget to give them all the info they need to get the most from their fundraising.

There are approx 90 performers for this year’s event. If we all raise just £100 each that’s a whopping £9000 for the NSPCC at xmas. Good luck and many many thanks for being involved.

Bring your own routine

If you’re a Lindy dancer from another city and are interested in bringing your own performance routine on the day we’d love to hear from you. It’s a perfect low-stress way to polish up your performances for a very forgiving Xmas shopping public.

Just contact robert.shield@me.com to book yourself some performance time ahead of the event.

Leeds Open Routine

If you’re based in Leeds fairly game then why not join along in our very own “Open Performance Routine”. Each year we take a group of novice dancers, partner you up with some more experienced sorts and learn a performance routine to dance for the public on the day.

It helps if you know a little Lindy Hop but you don’t need to be at all proficient since we teach you everything you need to look awesome on the day.

Rehearsal commitment is just 3 weekend afternoons (starting 19th Nov) held at The Light in Leeds City Centre.

If  you have any questions just contact robert.shield@me.com.

A Little Help

This kind of event takes a lot of organising and helpers to make it happen so even if you’re not a dancer or just a bit performance -shy,  we’d love to have your help with collecting from the public, and running the event on the day. Again just contact robert.shield@me.com

Have a look

If you dance Lindy Hop and just want to enjoy a free dance then there’s plenty of free-style dancing between the performances all day. If that all sounds a bit high-energy for you on these dark winter days then just drop by and enjoy the show (and maybe leave us a penny or two if we’ve entertained you). Failing that you can check back here for plenty of footage of what you missed and even make a donation from the comfort of your computer screen at http://justgiving.com/lindyatthelight11 OR just text LATL51 £5 to 70070 to donate £5 to The NSPCC.
